Duncan Sinclair Academy - Autism and Asperger Syndrome
My name is Hester Minnie and I am the principle of the Duncan Sinclair Academy in Randfontein, South Africa. I have a son aged 15 and a daughter aged 19 who have Asperger Syndrome. I know and understand the frustrations and the lack of services. This is the reason why I've decided to make this site different.
There is a lack of informal, non scientific, straight and honest examples of what Autism and Asperger Syndrome is and what it means to have a loved one living with it.
This website is dedicated to isolated, confused and frustrated parents, friends and family of persons on the Autistic Spectrum. The website includes the stories of qualified teachers, facilitators and the public on how they view or experience Autism and Asperger Syndrome. All the names used are fictitious to protect the identity of the Children and Adults living with the condition.
This website is about sharing our stories with others so that parents of children that have just been diagnosed with Classic Autism or Asperger Syndrome can better understand that there are others that experience the same problems.
This is your opportunity to air your experiences, feelings and views, telling our readers about the good, the bad and the ugly or just to vent your frustrations or anger.
Every story being told will be different because Autism Spectrum Disorders vary in intensity and in symptoms from person to person. It is quite possible to find that your loved one living on the Autism Spectrum has some symptoms that are similar to many others living with the condition. This means you could find something in more than one story that is similar to yours.
